Refrigeration oil Selection Guide
Selection Based on Refrigeration System Type
- Central Air – Conditioning System: For central air – conditioning systems, due to their large refrigeration capacity, long operating time, and complex working conditions, refrigeration oil with good lubrication performance, high stability, and long service life should be selected. If using fluorocarbon refrigerants such as R – 22 and R – 410A, our Parsalan – GS2 refrigeration oil (ISO Viscosity Grade 46) is a good choice. It can maintain stable performance during long – term operation, effectively reduce the wear of the compressor, ensure the efficient and stable operation of the central air – conditioning system, and has good miscibility with common fluorocarbon refrigerants.
- Cold Storage Refrigeration System: Cold storage refrigeration systems have higher requirements for the low – temperature performance of refrigeration oil. In a low – temperature environment, the refrigeration oil needs to maintain good fluidity and lubricity to ensure the normal start – up and operation of the compressor. For cold storages using ammonia refrigerants, special refrigeration oil suitable for ammonia systems should be selected to ensure its miscibility and chemical stability with ammonia. For cold storages using fluorocarbon refrigerants, such as large – scale low – temperature cold storages, the high viscosity and excellent low – temperature performance of Parsalan – GS3 refrigeration oil(ISO Viscosity Grade 68) can meet their needs, providing reliable lubrication and protection for the compressor under low – temperature and high – load working conditions.
- Refrigerator and Freezer Refrigeration System: Although the refrigeration system of refrigerators and freezers is relatively small, the requirements for refrigeration oil are equally strict. Due to its frequent operating conditions, the refrigeration oil needs to have good anti – wear performance and miscibility with the refrigerant. The low viscosity and excellent lubrication performance of Parsalan – GS1 refrigeration oil(ISO Viscosity Grade 32) make it very suitable for the refrigeration compressors of refrigerators and freezers. It can provide timely and effective lubrication for the compressor under the working conditions of frequent start – up and shutdown, reduce wear, and extend the service life of the equipment.
Consideration of Refrigerant Type Factors
- Fluorocarbon Refrigerants (HCFC, CFC, etc.): When used in combination with fluorocarbon refrigerants, the refrigeration oil must have good miscibility to prevent the separation of oil and refrigerant and affect the normal operation of the refrigeration system. Our Parsalan – GS series refrigeration oils (such as Parsalan – GS1, Parsalan – GS2, Parsalan – GS3) have excellent miscibility with common HCFC and CFC refrigerants such as R – 22, R – 502, and R – 12. They can be fully mixed with the refrigerant in the refrigeration cycle, ensuring the efficient heat exchange and stable operation of the system. At the same time, these refrigeration oils also have good chemical stability and can resist the chemical reactions that may occur during the operation of fluorocarbon refrigerants, extending the service life of the oil and refrigerant.
- Ammonia Refrigerants: Ammonia, as a refrigerant, has the advantages of high refrigeration efficiency and low Price, but it has special requirements for refrigeration oil. The refrigeration oil used in combination with ammonia refrigerant needs to have good chemical stability against ammonia and high insulation performance to prevent the pollution and corrosion of ammonia on the oil and ensure the electrical safety of the system. When selecting refrigeration oil suitable for ammonia refrigeration systems, it should be ensured that it is specially formulated to meet the special requirements of ammonia refrigeration systems and ensure the safe and stable operation of the system.
- Hydrocarbon Refrigerants: Hydrocarbon refrigerants such as R – 600a and R – 290 have different requirements for refrigeration oil from fluorocarbon and ammonia refrigerants. Such refrigerants usually require refrigeration oil to have low water absorption and good lubrication performance to ensure normal operation in the refrigeration system. When selecting refrigeration oil matching hydrocarbon refrigerants, attention should be paid to its sensitivity to moisture and lubrication effect in a hydrocarbon environment, and products that can meet these requirements should be selected to ensure the efficient and reliable operation of the refrigeration system.
Combination of Operating Conditions and Equipment Requirements
- Low – Temperature Working Conditions: In low – temperature working conditions, the viscosity of the refrigeration oil will increase, and the fluidity will become worse, which may lead to difficulties in compressor start – up and poor lubrication. Therefore, refrigeration oil with a low pour point and good low – temperature fluidity should be selected, such as Parsalan – GS1 refrigeration oil(ISO Viscosity Grade 32), whose pour point is as low as -42°C. It can flow quickly in a low – temperature environment, providing timely lubrication for the compressor and ensuring the normal start – up and operation of the equipment in low – temperature working conditions. At the same time, in low – temperature working conditions, attention should also be paid to the lubrication performance and anti – wear ability of the refrigeration oil to prevent excessive wear of compressor components under low – temperature and high – load conditions.
- High – Temperature Working Conditions: High – temperature working conditions will cause problems such as oxidation, evaporation, and viscosity reduction of the refrigeration oil. To ensure the stable performance of the refrigeration oil in a high – temperature environment, products with a high viscosity index and good thermal stability should be selected. For example, Parsalan – GS3 refrigeration oil(ISO Viscosity Grade 68) has a relatively high viscosity index (111) and can maintain a relatively stable viscosity at high temperatures, effectively preventing the rupture of the oil film and providing reliable lubrication and protection for the compressor. In addition, the refrigeration oil in high – temperature working conditions should also have good antioxidant performance to extend its service life, reduce the formation of sludge and carbon deposits, and keep the refrigeration system clean.
- High – Load Working Conditions: For refrigeration compressors operating under high loads, the refrigeration oil needs to have strong load – carrying capacity and anti – wear performance. Under high – load working conditions, the compressor components bear large pressures and are prone to wear. The high viscosity and excellent lubrication performance of Parsalan – GS3 refrigeration oil(ISO Viscosity Grade 68) enable it to form a thick enough oil film under high – load working conditions, effectively carry the load, reduce the friction and wear between components, ensure the long – term stable operation of the compressor under high – load conditions, and reduce the equipment failure rate and maintenance costs.
Key Points for Refrigeration oil Use and Maintenance
Usage Points
- Storage: Refrigeration oil should be stored in a dry, cool, and well – ventilated place, away from direct sunlight and high – temperature environments to prevent the oxidation and deterioration of the oil. The storage temperature should be kept within an appropriate range to avoid the freezing of the refrigeration oil at too low a temperature. The storage container should be well – sealed to prevent the entry of moisture, impurities, and air, so as not to affect the performance of the refrigeration oil. Different brands, models, and batches of refrigeration oils should be stored separately to avoid confusion.
- Filling: Before filling the refrigeration oil, it is essential to ensure that the filling tools and the refrigeration system are clean to prevent impurities from entering the system. Use special filling equipment and tools and operate according to the filling amount and method specified by the equipment Manufacturer. The filling process should be carried out slowly to avoid the generation of foam, because foam will affect the lubrication performance of the refrigeration oil and the heat exchange efficiency of the refrigeration system and may even lead to compressor failure. After filling, check whether the oil level is within the normal range to ensure that the compressor has sufficient lubricating oil.
Maintenance Points
- Regular Inspection of Oil Quality: Refrigeration oil samples should be regularly taken for testing. The test items include viscosity, acid value, flash point, water content, impurity content, etc. Generally, a test should be carried out every 6 months of operation according to the usage frequency and working environment of the equipment. If it is found that the oil quality indicators exceed the specified range, such as a viscosity change of more than ±10%, an increase in acid value, or a water content exceeding 0.1%, measures should be taken in a timely manner, such as replacing the refrigeration oil or performing oil purification treatment.
- Replacement of Filters: The function of the refrigeration oil filter is to filter impurities in the oil and keep the oil clean. Generally, the filter should be replaced every 24 months according to the severity of the working environment and the operating time of the equipment. In harsh environments such as dusty, humid, or high – temperature, the replacement cycle of the filter should be appropriately shortened. Regularly check the blockage of the filter. If it is found that the pressure difference of the filter is too large or the filter element changes color or deforms, it should be replaced immediately.
- Prevention of Contamination: During the use and maintenance of the refrigeration system, special attention should be paid to preventing contamination. Keep the working environment clean to avoid the entry of dust, sand, and other impurities into the system. Regularly check the seals of the refrigeration system. If they are damaged or aged, they should be replaced in a timely manner to prevent external contaminants from entering the system. When adding refrigeration oil or performing equipment maintenance, clean tools and containers should be used to avoid bringing impurities into the system. At the same time, ensure the purity and quality of the refrigerant to avoid the pollution of the refrigeration oil and the refrigeration system caused by impurities in the refrigerant.
